In the diet, they are classified as micronutrients. The first source of minerals can be found in both plants and animals. Another important source of minerals are supplements, which should definitely not be taken on your own. The body needs them for growth, development, energy, hemoglobin production, oxygen transport, building strong teeth and bones, proper functioning of kidneys, muscles and nerves and many other processes.

Potassium

Potassium is a mineral that has the function of an electrolyte – that is, it participates in the control of muscle contractions, and together with sodium it maintains the balance of fluids and other electrolytes in the cells of the body. Potassium is also known to contribute to the maintenance of a normal heart rhythm, while potassium deficiency leads to irregular heartbeat and phenomena such as arrhythmias.

Sources of potassium are: citrus fruits, legumes, melon, tomatoes, bananas, potatoes.

Sodium

Sodium is extremely important for the proper functioning of the body, primarily because it performs the function of an electrolyte, which means that it regulates the charge among the body’s cells. It also participates in the process of digestion. About 30% of this mineral is found in the bones. And it is the primary element of blood plasma and about 60% of sodium in the body is contained in the fluids that surround the cells.

Sources of sodium are: table salt, algae, milk, spinach.

Chlorine

Chlorine is present in stomach acid, which helps digest proteins. It also helps electrolytes control the flow of fluid in the body, affects digestion and suppleness of the body, and prevents hair loss.

Sources of chlorine are: olives, table salt, seafood.

Calcium

About 99% of the calcium in the human body is found in the bones. A similar percentage is in the case of phosphorus, where about 85% of this mineral is also present in the bones. Calcium is involved in the construction of bones and teeth, it is important for muscle contractions, the transmission of nerve signals, but also for the secretion of hormones and enzymes.

In order for the body to function normally, it must be supplied with a certain amount of calcium constantly , and the parathyroid gland is responsible for this, which produces hormones that regulate the level of calcium in the blood. Calcium is taken from food and released from the bones when there is not enough of it in food.

Sources of calcium are: whole grains, green vegetables, nuts, milk and dairy products, nuts, sesame.

Phosphorus

Phosphorus is another mineral important for bones, teeth, digestion, kidney function, muscles and many processes in the body. It participates in almost every biochemical reaction in the body, maintaining the normal pH value of the body and producing all the necessary energy. It is an integral part of the nucleic acids DNA and RNA, that is, the genetic code of an organism.

Sources of phosphorus are: whole grains, eggs, seeds, nuts.

Magnesium

Magnesium is responsible for hundreds of activities in the human body, and plays a huge role in how a person feels and how healthy they really are. Magnesium raises energy, provides better sleep, improves heart function, affects digestion, stabilizes mood and prevents anxiety.

Symptoms of magnesium deficiency in the body are insomnia, anxiety, mood swings, muscle weakness, lack of energy, slow metabolism, etc.

Sources of magnesium are: cocoa, hazelnuts, figs, grapefruit, almonds.

Zinc

Zinc is a specific mineral that is not much in the human body, but even a small amount that is present performs extremely important functions in the body. For example, the body cannot digest food and absorb nutrients without the presence of zinc in a certain amount.

Sources of zinc are: liver, sesame, wheat germ, oysters, pumpkin seeds, dark chocolate, peanuts.

Telugu

Iron is a mineral necessary for the performance of a large number of vital functions in the human body. It is essential for the biosynthesis of hemoglobin, a protein of red blood cells, which carries oxygen from the lungs to all our tissues. All reserve amounts of iron are stored safely in the liver, bone marrow and spleen, where they wait to be used again. The fact that there is no active mechanism for the elimination of iron from the body says a lot about its great biological importance.
Iron can be found in two forms: heme and non-heme. Heme iron is present in foods of animal origin and is better absorbed than non-heme iron, which is found in foods of plant origin, foods enriched with this mineral and dietary supplements that contain it.

Sources of heme iron are: meat (beef, lamb, pork, duck, chicken, turkey), offal (pork, chicken, turkey liver; lamb, beef, pork kidneys), fish (mackerel, trout, sea bass, tuna and canned sardines), seafood (octopus, oysters, shrimps, shellfish, crab).

Sources of non-heme iron are: spinach, tomato puree, potatoes, kale, legumes (soybeans, white beans, peas, lentils, chickpeas), nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pistachios, cashews).

Manganese

Manganese is a mineral that, like zinc, is found in very small amounts in the body, but despite this, it is responsible for the strong structure of bones, the construction of connective tissue, the proper functioning of the thyroid gland, the secretion of sex hormones, the regulation of blood sugar levels and the like.

Sources of manganese are: green vegetables, pineapples, hazelnuts, almonds, walnuts.

Thunder

Chromium is an important mineral that is found in small amounts in the human body. It aids glucose metabolism, regulates insulin levels, and maintains healthy levels of cholesterol and other fats in the blood. The body does not produce it on its own, but must be ingested with food.

Sources of chromium are: brewer’s yeast, whole grains, broccoli, potatoes, garlic, grapes, plums, mushrooms, beer, black pepper, unrefined sugar.

Copper

Copper is an essential mineral that plays an important role in bone formation, connective tissue production, and the process of encoding specific enzymes needed to produce melanin and eliminate free radicals from the human body.

Sources of copper are: beef liver, heart and kidneys, seafood, avocado, banana, grapes, sweet potato, tomatoes, sunflower seeds, cashews, almonds, hazelnuts.

Iodine

Iodine is one of the essential minerals for proper physical and mental development. It is responsible for the formation of new nerve cells, their branching and connection. Therefore, pregnant women should especially take care of the intake of a sufficient amount of iodine at the beginning of their pregnancy. Iodine is extremely important for the function of the thyroid gland. About 60% of the total amount of iodine in the body is found in it. This gland secretes thyroxine and thyronine, thyroid hormones that affect most metabolic processes and thus promote the growth and development of the body. And their synthesis is impossible without iodine. It also helps defend against infections by stimulating the death of harmful cells.

Sources of iodine are: iodized salt, algae, shellfish, sea fish (sardines, tuna, salmon), eggs.

Selenium

Selenium is an essential mineral found in trace amounts in the body. It serves as an antioxidant, especially in combination with vitamin E, by scavenging the so-called free radicals. Free radicals can damage cell membranes and DNA, contribute to aging and the development of numerous heart, circulatory and even cancer. Antioxidants neutralize the effect of free radicals and contribute to the reduction of damage caused by their action. Selenium is also needed for the functioning of the thyroid gland, for the immune system.

Sources of selenium are: Brazil nuts, sea and fish waters, liver, eggs, onions, tomatoes, Brussels sprouts, spinach.

Molybdenum

Molybdenum is found in very small amounts in the body, but its role is important in many biological processes that include the development of the nervous system, the removal of waste substances from the body through the kidneys and the production of energy in cells.

Sources of molybdenum are: beans, dark green leafy vegetables, legumes, peas, spinach, walnuts, green beans, eggs, sunflower seeds, wheat flour, cucumber, rice, cereals, yeast, liver, kidneys, low-fat milk, hard water (hard means it contains a lot of minerals).

Minerals are natural compounds with a characteristic chemical composition, responsible for contributing to the optimal functioning of many physiological processes in the body.
