An advanced form of flexibility training that involves both stretching and contracting targeted muscle groups or muscles.
Developed primarily for rehabilitation where it has proven to be very effective, this method has continued to be used more and more in the fitness world due to its good effect on increasing flexibility and strengthening muscle strength.
The area we want to stretch is under tension, the individual contracts the muscle for 5-6 seconds while the partner applies enough resistance to inhibit the movement. The strength of the contraction itself should be proportional to the level of your readiness. The contracted muscle is then relaxed and a controlled stretch of about 10-30 seconds is applied. This is followed by recovery and repetition of the whole process.
Use this method very carefully and only with people who are experts to assist in this exercise!
