A 10 Minute Guide to a Tension-Free Body and a Chaos-Free Mind

Do your shoulders “raise your collar” as soon as you open your emails, and a feeling of tightness in your chest after the third Zoom in a row? You’re not alone.

Prolonged sitting and constant pings keep the body in a mild fight-or-flight state. The result? Knots in the neck, shortness of breath and a brain that has a hard time “shutting down” when it’s time to rest.

The good news: It only takes ten minutes to reset both body and mind. We’ve combined two of the most effective tactics – stretching (for muscle relief) and mindfulness breathing (for reducing cortisol) – into a quick routine that you can do at your desk or in the living room.

1 . Why the combination of stretching and conscious breathing “extinguishes” stress

Incorporating a Stretch & Stress-Less – 10-Minute Anti-Stress Routine into your daily activities can make a significant difference.

  • Stretching increases blood flow to tight muscles, which sends a signal to the nervous system to relax the “alarm” zones.
  • Deep diaphragmatic breathing activates the vagus nerve and switches the body from sympathetic (stress) to parasympathetic (recovery) mode.
  • Studies have shown that 10 minutes of combined movement and conscious breathing can lower cortisol levels by up to 18%.
