Coxarthrosis

21. 10. 2024.

Coxarthrosis belongs to the group of diseases of degenerative rheumatism, which means that the cartilage in the joint thins over time. This leads to pain and limited movement in the hip joint.

Risk factors

Most often, coxarthrosis is caused by a combination of several factors, rarely due to a single factor.

  • Genetic predisposition.
  • Heavy physical labor.
  • Obesity.
  • Hip injuries.
  • Misalignment of the articular surfaces in the hip joint.
  • The female sex.
  • Intense sporting activities.
  • Smoking and regular alcohol consumption.

Symptoms

  • Pain that occurs in the groin area, but can later spread to other joints such as the knees and spine.
  • Limited mobility.
  • Compensation of movement due to insufficient muscle strength around the hip joint.

Treatment

Treatment focuses on reducing pain and increasing mobility, and this is achieved through exercise. If the damage to the cartilage is large and none of the conservative methods help, only then the operation is taken into account. First, we assess in which positions and movements the pain occurs and in relation to this, we draw up a kinesitherapy plan that would best suit the case. Exercises as part of kinesitherapy involve strengthening the muscles around the hip joint and working on the mobility of the joint. If there is a problem that is related to coxarthrosis and manifests itself in another joint, then we also deal with the need to properly adapt the whole body to the existing disease. The Difference Between Arthritis and Arthrosis

Arthritis is an autoimmune, progressive and inflammatory disease and can be diagnosed by taking blood to see if there are elevated rheumatism factors, while arthrosis is a degenerative disease where there is deterioration of cartilage and therefore increased friction between bones and is diagnosed by X-ray.
