Isometric stretching

25. 4. 2025.

Isometric stretching is a type of static stretching similar to PNF, but the contacts are held for a longer period of time.

This type of stretching puts the muscles under great strain, so it is not recommended for children and adolescents who are still developing. Other recommendations include resting at least 48 hours between isometric stretching exercises and performing only one isometric stretching exercise per session.

In order to properly perform isometric stretching, it is necessary to take a position of passive stretching, and then contract the muscles that we stretch for 10-15 seconds. It is important that the other extremities are fixed. After that, relax your muscles for at least 20 seconds.

This process should be repeated 2-5 times.
